My name is Simon, and on the 26th of December 2021, I walked from Brisbane to Melbourne (2200km+) dressed as the boofhead superhero Captain Australia.
I did this as a pilgrimage to overcome the devastating impact of a fight with stage 4 head and neck cancer (6 months to live), and in support of a charity called The Kids’ Cancer Project, because no child should have to endure what I did.
The BIG WALK was about hope, and healing. When I arrived in Federation Square on the 18th of March 2022, we had shared some important themes:
A broken life can be fixed (but hope is the essential fuel)
Kindness is the antidote to sorrow (and comes back at you like a boomerang)
Save but one life, and you save the world entire
Important enough that I feel it is necessary to undertake a bigger and more significant challenge: walking all around Australia in service of a charity called The Kids’ Cancer Project. (“Captain Australia’s BIG LAP”)
